Donating a van or minivan in Hawaii is more than just a generous act; it's an opportunity to uplift families and support community programs. Whether you have a family van that has seen better days or a cargo van collecting dust by the marina, Island Wheels is here to make the donation process as easy as a wave at Waikiki. We handle all the details, so you can focus on how good it feels to give.
Vans are among our most-requested vehicles, and we accept everything from passenger vans to conversion vans. Living in Hawaii, you might find these vehicles parked near local trails or RV parks, serving as home-away-from-home for many. Whether your van has been a trusty companion or has reached the end of its road, it can still make a positive impact.
What we accept
- Family Vans (running condition preferred, but we take all)
- Cargo Vans (working or non-working, we can help!)
- Passenger Vans (ideal for big families, running or not)
- Conversion Vans (if the engine's a bit tired, we still want it)
- Church Vans (contribute to community outreach, any condition)
- Work Vans (from contractors to landscapers, all welcome)
Condition & logistics
Running vs. Not Running
We accept vans in any condition! If your van's still cruising along, great! If it’s seen better days and can't start, we want it too. Every donation counts!
Title Issues
Don’t stress about title issues. If the paperwork seems a bit sketchy, we can guide you through the necessary steps to ensure a smooth donation.
Storage/Pickup Logistics
Got a van taking up space? No worries! We offer free pickup at your convenience, whether it’s at your home or a public place like a marina. Just let us know!
Title transfer & paperwork
In Hawaii, transferring a vehicle title is straightforward. You’ll need to fill out the DMV Form MVT-1, which is available online or at your local DMV office. If there’s any lien on your vehicle, it must be paid off before the transfer can happen. Notarization of the title is required, so be sure to find a notary before the pickup. Don't forget to return your plates to the DMV once the van is off your hands!
Tax deduction for this donation
Your donation can earn you a tax deduction ranging from $500 to the actual sale price if sold through Island Wheels. After you donate, we'll issue a Form 1098-C, documenting your contribution, which you can use when filing your taxes. Always consult with a tax professional for specific guidance!
Local context — Hawaii
In Hawaii, many of our van donations come from various life changes. Whether it's relocating to the mainland, downsizing after kids leave the nest, or simply upgrading to a newer model, there’s a steady stream of vehicles ready to be repurposed. The unique culture of Aloha and the spirit of giving means that locals are often eager to contribute to causes that support families, schools, and churches here on the islands.
